Inpatient Pharmacy
To help maximize our patients’ care and safety, our clinical pharmacy specialists monitor their medication use and regularly review medication orders.
Newman Regional Health has a technologically advanced drug distribution system that is widely recognized throughout the United States. To enhance patient safety, bar code technology is used from the time each drug arrives in the pharmacy until it is administered to a patient in order to minimize opportunities for error. Electronic medication administration records and electronic intervention documentation systems are in place.
Pharmacists at Newman Regional Health are involved in all aspects of pharmaceutical care. We employ clinical specialists who monitor patients, make rounds with physicians, participate in medication use evaluations, and improve patient safety through protocol and preprinted order development. Clinical staff pharmacists review medication orders and monitor patients on a daily basis. They have the opportunity to participate in code blue and trauma response, and provide patient education.
Clinical services
The goal of clinical pharmacy services is to maximize the care and outcomes of patients through optimal use of medication therapy. Clinical pharmacy specialists provide leadership for the pharmacy and the hospital within their respective area of expertise. They participate with physicians and other members of the healthcare team in direct patient care activities, and are highly sought after for their knowledge and expertise. They provide extensive education for health care professionals about safe and appropriate use of medication therapy.
Clinical staff pharmacists are responsible for reviewing all physician medication orders, guarding against allergies, drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, etc. In addition, they carefully monitor patients on an ongoing basis to help ensure that medication therapy is appropriate and achieving the desired outcomes. These pharmacists provide oversight for the hospital’s drug distribution system to provide accurate and timely medication doses.
