Newman Regional Health welcomes Dr. Jordan Willis
Emporia Gains New Orthopedic Surgeon
(EMPORIA, KS) Newman Regional Health proudly welcomes Dr. Jordan T. Willis, a highly skilled orthopedic surgeon, to their team. Bringing a wealth of experience and specialized training, his commitment is to provide exceptional care to the community. Now calling Emporia home, Dr. Willis shared that “the people” were the first thing that drew him toward choosing NRH. “Everyone was so accommodating and kind and had been working at Newman for many years – always a good sign.” With family in Kansas City and Wichita, Emporia felt like the perfect place for his family to settle.
Education and Experience
Born and raised in Kansas, Dr. Willis’s journey in medicine began at Kansas State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology after playing collegiate soccer at Manhattan Christian College. He continued his medical education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he served as president of the Adler Orthopedic Society.
Dr. Willis honed his skills during his residency at the KU School of Medicine-Wichita, focusing on trauma, sports medicine, and adult joint reconstruction. He furthered his expertise at the renowned Shriners Hospital in St. Louis, specializing in pediatric orthopedics.
Driven by his passion for sports medicine, Dr. Willis completed a fellowship at the Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center and Tulane University Sports Medicine Institute.
Willis shared about his experience during his fellowship, “Getting to cover Ole Miss Football and be a part of a sports medicine team like that, was one of the reasons I wanted to come here to help with Emporia State.”
He went on to share how his time in Wichita was formational, “A lot of my trauma experience was dealing with farm injuries and high-speed motor vehicle accidents. They are traumatic for not just the patient but the whole family, and not just the body but the spirit. Learning and being around those injuries and understanding how to take care of the whole person was a significant part of my training.”
Specialties and Care
Dr. Willis’s clinical focus includes comprehensive care of the upper and lower extremities, with expertise in minimally invasive techniques for shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee conditions. His specialties range from rotator cuff repairs and total shoulder replacements to ACL reconstruction, robotic-assisted knee replacements, and hip replacement surgeries.
“I like orthopedics because of its simplicity.” Dr. Wills expressed. “Usually there is something broken and we fix it or crooked and we make it straight. Either by non-operative treatment or if the body can’t heal itself, we get to do surgery – which is helpful.”
Dr. Willis is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
“Dr. Willis’s arrival at our community hospital has ushered in a multitude of benefits.” Said Cathy Pimple, CEO of Newman Regional Health. “His expertise in orthopedics has broadened the scope of services available, ensuring high quality care is easily accessible. As a highly skilled and compassionate surgeon, Dr. Willis is dedicated to providing personalized and empathetic care to all his patients.”
She went on to explain what this addition means for the Emporia community, “His pivotal role in sports medicine for athletes of all ages and his care for trauma patients in the emergency room will significantly impact our community’s health care landscape.”
Family
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Willis enjoys spending time with his family. He and his wife are the proud parents of three children. His interests include playing and watching sports (notably the Chiefs and Royals), hunting, fishing, and volunteering at Kanakuk camps.
When asked what excites him about this next step in his career, Willis answered, “I am excited about this opportunity. Being a part of ESU on the level that I get to be is awesome, I am thankful for that. And the trajectory that Newman has shown recently with Cathy and all the new staff she has brought on. I think the future is bright for Newman and I can tell there is going to be a lot of growth in the next few years. I’m really excited for what that is going to look like.”
