Newman Regional Health Expands Sports Medicine Program

Justin Clark to facilitate a Saturday Sports Clinic for student athletes.

(EMPORIA, KS) Newman Regional Health has welcomed Justin Clark, Certified Athletic Trainer, to the Medical Partners Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team. This arrival will facilitate, along with Dr. Jordan Willis, NRH’s Saturday Sports Injury Clinic beginning this Saturday, September 7th.

Originally from White City, Kansas, Justin received his Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion and Athletic Training from Emporia State University in 2003. Working as a Certified Athletic Trainer for Memorial Health System and Abilene High School for the last 18 years, Clark has an established career of providing outstanding care for student athletes.

“I am so excited to have Justin join the Emporia Sports Medicine community! He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the athletes of Lyon County and the surrounding areas.” She went on to say, “Justin has a proven track record and is an advocate for the safety and wellbeing of the athletes he works with. I know he will continue that with the athletes he cares for in their return to activities and sports in their daily lives.”
Heather Cole, Athletic Trainer at Emporia High School

As the current president of the Kansas Athletic Trainers Association, Clark brings his expertise to Emporia with great enthusiasm. Noting that his involvement in providing care at the National High School Rodeo Finals since 2009 has been one of the more significant experiences of his career.

While in Abilene, Justin led the Sports Medicine program for USD 435, working with middle and high school level athletes on the sidelines and teaching Athletic Training courses. The benefit of adding Justin to the team at Newman Regional Health will undoubtedly improve the health and safety of student athletes in Emporia and surrounding communities.

Clark will be an integral part of the newly established Saturday Sports Injury Clinic at Newman Regional Health. Whether an injury has occurred at the Friday night football game or earlier in the week, student athletes can visit the clinic to get immediate assessments and care. The initial assessment for the clinic is at no charge. Any additional services or treatment will be submitted to the patient’s insurance and charged at the regular rates.

The clinic will be held in the Newman Regional Health Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic, which is close to Entrance C. To receive care, student athletes must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Check-in is on Saturday mornings between 7:45am and 8:00am, patients will be seen first come, first served. The clinic will be open every Saturday beginning September 7th and ending November 2nd.

With the support of Justin Clark, the clinic will be led by the newest member of the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team Jordan Willis, MD in addition to Ryan LaSota, MD.

Clark shares his hope for the upcoming sports season by saying, “I am excited to offer this service not only to the student-athletes of Emporia but also to our surrounding schools and communities. As a graduate of a small 1A school, and a career of caring for secondary school student-athletes, I am quite passionate about providing quality care to our smaller schools that do not have the resources that larger schools may have access to.”

Adding this clinic will certainly have a significant impact on families in Emporia and the surrounding region.
